Felixstowe: Mischievous Westie rescued from rooftop by firefighters after escapade to find the gulls

Whisky the Westie gave himself and his owners the fright of their lives – after the tantalising sound of gulls enticed him onto a rooftop.

The year-old West Highland Terrier climbed out of a bedroom window to investigate the birds but when he saw the drop to the ground below he froze, stuck on tile ridge, unable to move.

No amount of calling and encouraging from owners Jenny and Richard Eacott would shift him, and in the end the family called the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service to the chalet bungalow in Priory Road, Felixstowe.

Mrs Eacott said: “We didn’t know anything was wrong until we heard Whisky’s sister Jazz barking outside in the back garden looking up at the roof, probably shouting ‘What are you doing up there?’

“We tried calling him, dangling ham to him, but he wouldn’t come.

“The fire crew put up a ladder and being a sociable little dog he came to them and they brought him down.

“They were amazing and we just want to thank them so much – I know they are part-time on-call firefighters and their kindness was appreciated so much.”

Mr and Mrs Eacott and their children Victoria, 23, and Jonathan, eight, were on a visit from Sussex to Mrs Eacott’s parents, Mary and Norman Cawston.
