A CHARITY has today launched a new project to help provide food for people living on the breadline.
BASIC Life is hoping its DIP scheme – Donations Into Parcels – will ensure hard-up families at least have enough food on the table each week.
The idea is that special donation boxes will be placed in churches, shops and other places for people to give tinned and non-perishable goods, which the charity will then parcel up to give to households referred to it by social services and identified as needing help.
Administrator Graham Denny said: “There are a lot of people suffering at the moment and social services says if we can help with food, that can help prevent other problems arising.
“We would love people to contribute – perhaps if people buy one get one free, they could give the free one to DIP. The charity will also buy goods to add to the parcels.”
