FELIXSTOWE: A pensioner who downloaded more than 600 indecent images of children on his computer over an 11-year period has been locked up for four months.

The disgusting images came to light after 70-year-old grandfather Michael Prowse took his computer into a shop in Felixstowe to have work done on it and staff called the police because they were concerned at what they found, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Prowse, of Grange Farm Avenue, Felixstowe, admitted three offences of making indecent images of children between 1999 and 2010 and was jailed for four months.

Sentencing him, Judge Nicholas Coleman said Prowse had actively sought out images of pre-teen and very young girls.

Michael Crimp, prosecuting, said that on a scale of one to five, with level five being the most serious, 518 of the images were level one, 17 were level two, 25 were level three and 47 level four.

Ian Duckworth, for Prowse, said his client was in poor health and was likely to miss a wedding and the graduation of his grandchildren in America because of the offences.
