THE port of Felixstowe has been closed today due to high winds.

A lane of the dockspur road, off the A14, is currently being used to stack the lorries that are unable to get into the port.

Police are warning motorists that this is likely to cause delays along the A14.

'Operation Stack', the name given to this method of stacking HGVs, is expected to continue until the extreme weather dies down later this evening.

A spokesman for the port said more than 100 lorries were being held at dockspur road but no significant delays had been caused to motorists as a result.

He said freight ferries were running as normal.
