A SHOP owner should not have removed a book about Jimmy Savile from his store’s front window, according to a Star reader poll.

Poor Richard’s Books owner, Richard Moffat, came in for criticism from shoppers when the book about the shamed TV presenter was spotted last week.

It was taken down after complaints were made.

But Star readers have come out in support of Mr Moffat through a poll on our website stating that the book should not have been removed – a move which some branded as censorship.

In all, 361 people voted in the poll with 223 people, 62 per cent, saying the item should have stayed put.

One Ipswich Star reader said: “This is just mass hysteria of the worst sort. Perhaps it wasn’t very good timing or taste by the bookseller, but are we now to turn into a society like Nazi Germany, where book-burning was the fashion in another display of intolerance and crowd madness?”
