MEASURES have already been put in place to help improve pupils’ performance at a school which was today revealed as one of the worst performing in the county at key stage two.

Causton Junior in Felixstowe dropped from 91st position to 161st in the latest league table for Suffolk’s junior and primary schools.

Elsewhere, there were mixed results for the resort’s schools – with most climbing the table and others losing ground.

Lizzie Girling, headteacher at Causton Junior in Maidstone Road, said everyone was disappointed with the results and the leading staff, leadership team and governors had been working hard before and since the tests to improve pupils’ attainment.

“Because of the work taking place before the results came out and the work we are doing and have planned, we are already seeing the hard work of the teaching staff and hard work of the pupils making a difference and by the next results we will see an improvement,” said Mrs Girling, who is also head of Maidstone Infant School.

“The results are based on a test and it is very much what happens on that day in that test.

“We are always making changes to make improvements to attainment and to help the children achieve their very best both here and to prepare them for high school, to support these children and help them be successful – that’s our core purpose and is always our core purpose.”

There was good news as the town’s two most improved schools moved into the top 40 – with Colneis Junior School going up from 52 to 39th place, and Kingsfleet Primary from 63rd to 35th.

Grange Primary also rose from 135th to 122nd, Trimley St Martin 72nd to 55th and Trimley St Mary 68th to 65th.

Langer Primary Academy, which two years ago when it was Langer Primary was put into special measures after receiving the lowest possible rating by Ofsted, dropped slightly.

The school, now changed to an academy and run by the Academies Enterprise Trust went from 96th to 113th. Ofsted’s last regular inspection though said that “good progress” was being made.
