felixstowe/uk: A team of car-loving fundraisers are today preparing to cruise into Felixstowe, crossing the line on the final day of this year’s Taylor Run.

The annual event, organised by Mark and Jenny Smith, is held in memory of their nine-month-old son Taylor Westley-Smith, who died of meningitis in 2009.

Since losing their “beautiful and lively” son, the couple launched a fundraising drive, raising nearly 25,000 so far.

Mr Smith told The Star: “It is too late for us, but we want to raise as much awareness of this horrible disease and funds to wipe it out as we can.

“We want to ensure that no other parents have to go through what we have.”

This year’s Taylor Run has covered 2,000 miles, setting off from Felixstowe last Saturday, stopping off at Meningitis UK headquarters in Somerset before touring the country.

Mr Smith added: “This is the biggest and best Taylor Run ever and it seems to be going without any problems.

“It is not for the faint-hearted as there are rules and some financial penalties that people can incur.”
