SHOPPERS in Felixstowe have the chance to support four good causes and help to raise thousands of pounds for their work.

The East of England Co-operative Society has launched its latest Token Scheme collection at its Felixstowe town centre supermarket.

Customers at the store in Hamilton Road will be given a token for every 5 they spend and will be able to choose which of the projects they would like to support. Each token will be worth 5p to the charity.

The projects being supported include mayor Mike Deacon’s chosen charities for his year in office: FACTS, a dial-a-ride service devoted to helping disabled and mobility-impaired people to get out and about, and youth project Level Two, which helps young people aged 11 to 19 build a better, brighter future.

Customers could also choose to support Felixstowe Chamber of Trade and Commerce’s events co-ordinator, who works to increase and publicise the town’s events and attractions to bring more people to the seaside, or the Felixstowe Volunteer Coast Patrol Rescue Service, part of the resort’s network of coastal emergency organisations.

Andrew Dawes, retail liaison controller for East of England Co-operative Society, said “We are delighted to be able to offer our local members and customers the opportunity to support projects in their local community.

“The Token Schemes have raised tens of thousands of pounds for projects across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

“With the fantastic support from the local community, we are certain this figure will continue to grow.”
