LIVE music, five-a-side football and children's rides were among the entertainment at the 25th annual May Day Festival in Alexandra Park.

Fine weather brought out the crowds who enjoyed stalls, music from local bands, plus a multitude of DJ's organised by Missile Entertainment. Community Service Volunteers also laid on a marquee with alternative music and poetry.

The Ipswich and District TUC event started with a march from the New Wolsey Theatre at 11 am yesterday with campaigners from the Fire Brigades Union, Save Broomhill Pool, Ipswich Stop the War Coalition and protesters against the council tax hike.

Roger MacKay, president of the Ipswich and district TUC, said: "We have had a good turnout and the level of entertainment has been superb."
