Hundreds of stalls selling everything from Christmas crackers to wooden toys and sweets lined the Thoroughfare as shoppers hunted for gifts and children tucked into candy floss and fudge.

Wafts of barbecued meat warmed the frosty winter air as people queued down the street for a slice of a two-and-a-half foot hog-roast and apple sauce.

Ipswich children's author Steven Barrell, 41, was there to sell his new book "Whooooooosh – A Tale For The Winter Solstice" , a traditional children's story set in a fictitious which grandparents were snapping up for their little ones.

Four-piece brass band Stacks of Sax entertained the shoppers with Christmas-themed arrangements.

Lynsey Starling, 23, from Bildeston, said it was the third time the band had played at the annual street fair. She said: "There have been loads of people here and lots standing and watching us play."

Sunday's fair started at around 10am and ran well into the afternoon as shoppers took advantage of a huge range of gifts on sale to buy some Christmas bargains.
