The sound of Christmas carols echoed around St Mary-le-tower church last night at the annual Ipswich Star and East Anglian Daily Times Christmas Carol Concert.

Led by Reverend Canon Charles Jenkin and the church’s incredible choir, singers raised the roof with a feast of festive favourites.

Each year the carol concert raises cash for a good cause in the county. This year, Fresh Start - New Beginnings was chosen to receive all proceeds from the event.

The concert included a special address by Diana Porter, the founder of the charity, who highlighted the important work they do in helping children who have been the victim of sexual abuse. Since it was established in October 2012, the charity has helped more than 930 children across Suffolk rebuild their lives, giving them a chance to look ahead to a happy future.

It often finds it difficult to attract fundraising due to the distressing nature of its work.
