Firefighters tackled a blaze at a shop in Kesgrave this morning.

Two fire engines and police were called to the scene of the fire at One Stop in Penzance Road at 8.morning. Crews arrived at around 8.30am and the fire had been put out and brought under control at 9.08am.

A residential flat above the shop was evacauted but there was no-one trapped or injured, a spokesman for the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious, police said. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.

The fire was reported at the rear of the building, the fire service spokesman said.

Crews used two hose reel jets, two breathing apparatus, and a covering jet to tackle the fire.

Police officers assisted the fire service with the evacuation.

The store is part of a row of shops in Penzance Road. The fire service said there were no reports at the scene of other buildings or shops being affected by the fire.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman earlier indicated the “electrical fire” broke out in an office area within the property.

A staff member at Little Luxuries, which is based next to One Stop but does not adjoin the property, said her shop was not affected by the fire and indicated it was not a serious blaze.

“It has all packed up now,” she added.
