AN Ipswich house was damaged and a major road closed today after a fire broke out.

The blaze in the semi-detached house in Colchester Road was reported just before 1.10pm and, at its height, saw five fire crews fighting the flames.

Smoke could be seen coming through the roof tiles of the property and the firefighting effort concentrated on the roof and loft area.

Crews used the turntable ladder from Bury St Edmunds to access the upper parts of the building.

Police closed off a section of the road while the fire crews battled to control the blaze.

Early reports suggested no one had been injured in the fire.
