FIREFIGHTERS from Suffolk today helped to put out a blaze in a warehouse just over the border in Essex after an explosion.
Four Suffolk crews - from two from Haverhill, and one each from Clare and Sudbury - were called to join two from Halstead at the premises used as a car workshop in Great Yeldham.
Officers at the scene in Toppesfield Road, Great Yeldham, said when they arrived the warehouse, which measures 60 metres by 60 metres, was well alight and a number of vehicles were on fire.
The fire involved paints, chemicals and gas cylinders.
It was quickly under control and by 11.15am was extinguished, though damping down operations and checking for remaining hotspots was expected to take some time.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and an investigation will be carried out by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and the police.
