FIREFIGHTERS from six stations across Essex battled a fierce blaze last night which was threatening to spread to fuel storage tankers.
Crews were called to a fuel yard in Maldon at 6.40pm where four fuel lorries were “well alight”.
They battled the flames for about an hour-and-a-half and managed to stop the fire spreading to nearby storage tankers at West Station Yard in Spital Road.
The blaze was put out by 8.15pm and an investigation has now been launched with Essex Police to establish the cause.
Speaking afterwards, Assistant Divisional Officer Simon Dedman said crews had done well to prevent the incident becoming more serious.
