HUNDREDS of disappointed shoppers were turned away from one of Norwich's department stores yesterday after an electrical fire forced the shop to shut.
Marks and Spencer was plunged into darkness and surrounded by four fire engines as fire fighters worked for hours to clear smoke out of the building.
The store's fridges and freezers were also switched off but M&S refused to say what would happen to the mountains of chilled and frozen food in the food hall.
A spokesman for M&S said the Rampant Horse Street branch would continue to be closed today while the damage is assessed, but it may reopen on Friday.
