THOUSANDS of people in Felixstowe were left without power, after a fire broke out in an electricity sub-station.The fire in a car park on Highfield Road cut-off 4,900 homes, with supplier EDF Energy engineers able to get 1,600 fixed within an hour of the incident.

MORE than 100 Felixstowe homes are thought to be still without power today after a fire broke out in an electricity sub-station.

Thousands of people in Felixstowe were left without power last night, after the fire broke out in a car park on Highfield Road.

EDF Energy engineers have been working through the night to restore power to the 4,900 homes which were affected.

They were able to get 1,600 fixed within an hour of the incident.

Two fire crews from Felixstowe were called out to put out the flames, caused by a high voltage fault, at 8.38pm last night.

An EDF Energy spokesman said: “We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers.”
