AN Ipswich home has been left devastated after fire ripped through both floors causing extensive damage tonight.

The fire in Kelly Road broke out about 8.25pm and eye-witnesses said flames were pouring out of the upstairs rooms and all the windows were smashed.

The residents of the house were saved by their smoke detector which alerted them to the fire and got them out in time.

Jamie Hilling, 24, has been staying at the address and came back to find the devastation.

"I came back from playing football and just saw lots of people in the street and then the fire engines. I soon realised that it was the house I was staying in. Smoke was just coming out of the windows and everything was ruined."

Sub Officer Will Tel confirmed that the fire had started in an upstairs bedroom.

"We were called to the fire in Kelly Road and on arrival flames were coming out of the windows.

Three appliances attended and we used six breathing apparatus and two hose reels. We can confirm the cause was accidental."
