EMERGENCY services and experts were dealing with a chemical incident at a factory in Essex last night.
Firefighters were called to Holroyde Components, a three-floor chemical factory, in Saffron Walden after a reaction took place between two substances on the ground floor processing plant, causing a chemical haze.
The crews were called to the incident at just after 8pm after smoke alarms went off in the building.
Ray Skinner, Essex Fire and Rescue's Divisional Officer, in charge of the incident, said dry decontamination of two firefighters was taking place after seeking expert opinion.
The smoke was found to be a chemical haze involving ferric chloride and hydrochloric acid.
Experts at the scene said this chemical hazes chlorine gas. The incident was still ongoing late last night.
