BLONDES have more fun, but for these six Felixstowe firefighters it could be others having fun at their expense.

For the group look set for a certain amount of teasing and joking around after having had their hair dyed blonde.

But they should end up with the last laugh because they are not keeping their blonde locks under their hats – or helmets – as they have been sponsored to change hair colour and are raising money for charity from the stunt.

Dave Kemp, Howard Ottywill, Steve Hayward, Richard Emery, Simon Brame and Kevin Driver were given their new look by the owners of local hair salon Cutt's .

Business partners Nina Higgins and Tracey Sheeran from the salon in High Road West, Walton, visited Felixstowe fire station to dye the hair for free.

The firefighters are raising money for the Red Cross mission to help children in Iraq and have so far raised around £450 from relatives, friends and colleagues.

Firefighter Mark Cooper, who didn't take the plunge and have his hair dyed, said: "We all think they're great sports and it's been fun, though they do look a bit freaky at the moment.

"At least they will have their helmets to cover their heads up when they are out and about together on duty."
