A NUMBER of major outdoor events in and around Ipswich didn't go ahead this year.

There was no Maritime Ipswich or Orchestrelle, and the Suffolk Show had to be cancelled because of the foot-and-mouth outbreak.

So it's great to hear about one massive event which definitely will be taking place. Tickets will shortly go on sale for East Anglia's premier firework display – and it will be bigger and better than ever!

The 11th Scout Group is once again joining forces with The Evening Star to present a huge £32,000 musical firework extravaganza in Christchurch Park, on Saturday November 3.

All proceeds will go to the Scouts and other local charities, and leading Suffolk-based firm Shell Shock will once again be firing the pyrotechnics as only they can.

"We can safely say that this year's display will be the biggest ever," said David Savidge , one of the organisers from 11th Ipswich Scouts.

"We will be letting off £32,000 worth of fireworks, and there will be between four and five explosions every second."

This year's display marks the 30th birthday of the very popular event, which regularly attracts crowds of around 30,000.

So, to celebrate, the display will be set to a medley of classic chart hits from the past 30 years.

The SGR fm Roadshow will be on hand, and there will be a giant funfair, plus plenty of other entertainment and live music.

Advance ticket prices have been frozen to their 1999 levels, £4 for adults and £2.50 for children aged five to 15. This represents a 33 per cent saving on the prices which will be charged on the night.

Tickets go on sale on Monday October 1, and will be available from the following outlets: The Evening Star offices in Lower Brook Street and Adcentre Solar Felixstowe; Tower Ramparts Shopping Centre Ipswich; Ipswich Entertainments Box Office, Prince's Street; Sainsbury's, all Ipswich stores; Keith Avis High Street Hadleigh and Keith Avis Instore Buyright Hadleigh; United News thoroughfare and Turban Centre Woodbridge; Tourist Information Centres at St Stephen's Lane Ipswich and Wilkes Way Stowmarket.
