A couple who are mad about movies are 'living the fairytale' as they become the first people to tie the knot at their Suffolk cinema.

"We thought ‘why not?’ Let’s make their wedding wishes come true"

Emma Murdoch and Adam MacIntyre celebrated their love for each other by becoming the first pair to be legally married on the stage of Leiston Film Theatre yesterday afternoon.

The couple’s shared passion for film saw them enjoy their first date at the cinema to watch a remake of ‘Total Recall’, with a wedding proposal following about a year ago at the Beauty and the Beast castle at Walt Disney World in Florida.

The movies theme also played a huge role in the wedding as guests enjoyed theme tunes from blockbusters such as Disney’s Aladdin, The Lion King and Toy Story, as well as Harry Potter and Star Wars.

Mr MacIntyre joked he would have gone as far as dressing up as Darth Vader or a Jedi - from the Star Wars films - but the registrar told them the ceremony should be a “solemn” occasion.

Instead, the 31-year-old, who runs a carpentry business, donned a kilt in honour of his Scottish roots, while the bride, who is a massive fan of Disney, wore a traditional white wedding gown.

All couples hope for a fairytale ending, but Mr MacIntyre, said “we are living it”.

“I knew Emma was the one for me very early on. We have been together quite some time now. We just clicked. She got my quirky sense of humour,” he said.

As Emma, 26, was such a regular at Leiston Film Theatre the cinema decided to apply for a wedding licence, which was already a burgeoning idea.

Wayne Burns, general manager of Leiston Film Theatre, said: “It had been at the back of our minds for a long while, but we needed a special case to put wheels in motion.

“They are two of our most popular customers who do use us almost on a weekly basis. When they approached us we thought ‘why not?’

“Let’s make their wedding wishes come true.”

The couple, who met in their local boozer, The Engineers Arms in Leiston, had 85 guests at their wedding, which continued with a reception at Leiston Social Club.
