The soldiers - three from the Grenadier Guards and two from the Royal Military Police - died in an attack in the Nad-e'Ali district of Helmand Province.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman said the soldiers died from gunshot wounds during the incident yesterday afternoon.
Next of kin have been informed.
