FIVE men were today remanded in custody charged in connection with an attempt to smuggle cocaine worth £40 million into the UK through Felixstowe.
The 647-kg haul arrived at Felixstowe from Ecuador on November 13.
The five Britons were named by Customs as Rex Duncan Newport, 56, of Brickell Bay Drive, Miami, Florida; his son Duncan Robert Newport, 34, of Bro Endwyn, Dyffryn, Ardudwy, Gwynedd; Peter Roy Adams, 42, of Ty Hellu, Dyffryn, Ardudwy, Gwynedd; Louis Gordon Hillard, of no fixed abode, and Mark Anthony Reeves, 37, of Wheatmill Close, Blakedown, Worcestershire.
All five defendants were remanded in custody until Monday December 2 by Wolverhampton Magistrates Court after a brief appearance.
