And in another accident in Ipswich a man had to be taken to hospital following a two car smash on the outskirts of the town.

Police, fire and ambulance were all called to the A14 at around 8.50pm yesterday after a red Fiat Punto apparently hit a road sign and then overturned on the eastbound carriageway of the A14 close to Haughley bends, just before the A1120 turn off.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said that all passengers were out of the car by the time they got there and some of the people had received slight injuries.

No other cars were involved in the crash and the police spokesman said that no arrests were likely to be made as a result of the accident.

Fire crews from Stowmarket and Needham Market took around 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Earlier in the evening at around 6.20pm a driver had to be taken to Heath Road hospital following a smash on Ransomes Way in Ipswich.

The driver of the Volkswagen Polo had to be treated for head injuries after colliding with the windscreen.

A driver of the Peugeot 306, also involved in the crash escaped injury but was suffering from shock.

Fire crews had to be called to the scene to deal with a petrol leak caused by the crash.
