Officers were called to Undercliff Road West, in Felixstowe, at around 3.20pm yesterday by a member of the public who reported seeing what was thought to be a handgun.
Suffolk police's armed response unit was deployed as well as a dog team and officers temporarily sealed off a section of the road.
Five people were arrested from cars, a property and in the street and three BB guns, a machete, a cross bow and some knives were seized.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said officers arrested a 35-year-old Felixstowe man on suspicion of possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply.
A 28-year-old woman from Felixstowe, a 36-year-old woman from Felixstowe, a 30-year-old man from Felixstowe and a 42-year-old man from Woodbridge were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.
They were being held in custody at police stations in Ipswich and Felixstowe.
