TWO men are in hospital with serious head injuries, following a mass brawl involving teenagers outside a supermarket.

The ugly incident saw two groups of youths converge at the Asda superstore on Bury Road shortly after 10pm on Sunday, and resulted in five people being taken to hospital, where they remain today.

It is unclear at this time whether any weapons were used or later recovered at the scene, or why and how the incident started.

The superstore was closed at the time, although staff were working inside preparing to open today at 7.30am. However, they were unable to comment today.

Five men were arrested at the scene and are currently in police custody at Ipswich police station.

Police were unable to confirm the identities or addresses of the people arrested.

Police spokeswoman Lisa Wilson said: "Of the five men arrested, two are ages 15, one is aged 16, two are aged 17, and another aged 27. I cannot give any more details at this time."

Those arrested have been detained on suspicion of violent disorder.

A spokesman for the East Anglian Ambulance Service confirmed crew were called to an incident at 10.30pm last night.

She said: "We sent four ambulances and a rapid response vehicle. Two people were conveyed to Ipswich Hospital with what were described as serious head injuries. Three others were also taken in. The last incident did not leave the scene until 11.18pm.

"I cannot comment on the nature of the injuries suffered by the other three men, but they were also taken to hospital."
