The arrests and subsequent charges are the second batch in the county as part of Operation Ore, the nationwide police crackdown on child pornography on the internet.

All of them were scheduled to appear at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court in Ipswich to face 16 separate charges of making indecent images of a child under the age of 16.

The five are all charges with offences under section 1, sub section (1) (a) of the Protection of Children's Acts 1978.

In April, six men and a woman appeared in court charged with the same offences.

Of those in court on April 30, Alison Owen, a classroom assistant, of Chedburgh Rd, Chevington, Richard Sugden, who is 53 today, of Nottidge Road, Ipswich, and Jonathan Bennett, who is 31 today, of Dennor Close, Sutton-on-Sea, were also due back in court today on child pornography offences.

Anna Woolnough, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said: "We will not confirm that any arrest or charge is part of Operation Ore.

"However, Suffolk Police can confirm that they are and have been for some time, actively investigating the information provided by the National Crime Intelligence Service (NCIS) in relation to Operation Ore.

"A great deal of progress has been made with our investigation.

"Those alleged offenders who have been identified as possible high risk have been arrested and a number have now been charged."

Nationally police have a list of more than 7,200 names of people under investigation which started as part of a FBI crackdown.
