Firefighters have cut one person from their vehicle after a major collision on the A14 near Sproughton.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 7.20am this morning with reports of a five vehicle collision heading eastbound on the A14 between Sproughton and Whitehouse.
Motorists travelling towards Ipswich were caught in serious delays as a result of the crash, with tailbacks stretching as far back as junction 50 at Stowupland.
An oil spill on the road caused further chaos.
Two lanes were closed, but the road has since completely re-opened.
One person had to be cut free from their vehicle by the fire service – but there are not thought to be any major injuries.
An ambulance spokeswoman said: “We were called at 7.49am with reports of a collision on the A14 eastbound.
“We sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.
“One person was taken to Ipswich Hospital for further treatment.”
An eyewitness, who was travelling between Stowupland and Martlesham, said: “It should take me 25 minutes to get to work and I have already been in the car for an hour and I’m only halfway there.
“Drivers haven’t been paying attention and I’ve seen more accidents in the traffic.”
Another witness said: “It was pay-and-display on the A14 this morning. Some of my colleagues waited in the standstill traffic for over an hour, getting into work well after 9.30am.
“I would have joined the A14 at Sproughton, which was just beyond the scene of the collision, had I checked the travel news before setting off.
“It was a frustrating way to the start the week but I’m glad no-one was seriously injured, which is far more important than delays, and well done to the emergency services for dealing with the incident.”
