The pub opened in February 1970 and was part of a wider shopping complex.

It was known as Harleys for a time but had reverted to the Harlequin before its final demise in 2006.

The shopping complex had been plagued by anti-social behaviour and a decision was made demolish it and replace it with a supermarket. Costcutter moved out and Asda moved in, meanwhile a Chinese take-away, hairdressers and a bookmaker’s were relocated.

The Harlequin however, was resigned to history, joining a long line of fallen pubs in Ipswich.
