A CRASH at RAF Wittering left a crew member dead after they ejected from their stricken jet.

The Royal Navy Sea Harrier jet crashed on take-off at 9.35am today. A second crew member was left with minor injuries.

A spokesman for the Cambridgeshire RAF base said no details about the two crew would be released until family members had been notified.

Both civil and forces emergency services raced to the crash scene after the training jet crashed.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman confirmed their officers were at the scene, but said the operation had been transferred to Northamptonshire as the crash crossed county boundaries.

As The Evening Star went to press, emergency services were still at the scene.

The RAF Wittering spokesman said it was too early to comment on the cause of the crash, but confirmed an investigation would be launched.
