Flooding sees tip closed and football games scrapped

LAST night's torrential downpour has forced Suffolk county council to shut the Foxhall household waste recycling centre because of flooding.

SUFFOLK: Torrential rain resulted in a tip being closed and a number of football matches being called off.

The Foxhall household waste and recycling centre, near Martlesham, closed yesterday morning because of flooding but opened up later in the afternoon.

Ipswich Borough Council also announced that all weekend football matches at Gainsborough and Whitton Sports Centres and in the town's parks have been cancelled.

Suffolk Constabulary said it received a number of calls on Wednesday night from motorists concerned about the amount of water on the roads.
