SPROUGHTON Tennis Club can now boast two new floodlit courts.

After three years of planning, guest of honour Ipswich Witches ace Jeremy Doncaster arrived to officially open them.

Helping him perform the honours was David Hall, county development officer for Suffolk Lawn Tennis Association.

The club was one of the many beneficiaries to the National lottery scheme and was awarded £11,659 by Sport England to enhance their facilities. Additionally, the club has received funding from both the Babergh District Council and Sproughton Parish Council.

The total project cost £24,000 and consists of new perimeter fencing and floodlighting to the two-court block, the courts have also been spray-cleaned, bonded and painted.

Work on the project began in March 2000 and was completed by mid – May of the same year.

The committee felt the improvements were essential if the club is to survive and grow against the larger clubs in the area.
