Tributes have been paid to Dean Stansby after he was named by police as the victim of the fatal stabbing near Ipswich railway station earlier this week.
Floral tributes have been left at the scene of the incident in Ancaster Road, paying tribute to the “big hearted” 41-year-old who was from the Trimley St Mary area.
His brother Paul Stansby, who works at the Lucky 13 tattoo studio in St Margaret’s Street, thanked everyone who has laid flowers in his own tribute on social media.
He wrote on his Instagram page: “I want to say many thanks to everyone who placed flowers and gave such kind words. He was a pain but he was my pain. Miss you brother. May you sleep with the angels and dance with the devils.”
He declined to comment when approached by this newspaper.
Police were called by the ambulance service at 6.30pm on Wednesday to reports that a man had been stabbed in the area of Ancaster Road. He was taken to Ipswich Hospital, but later died.
A Home Office post-mortem examination on Thursday afternoon concluded the cause of death was as a result of a stab wound to the abdomen.
A 39-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of murder. He has been bailed until Monday, May 22. He had been wanted on recall to prison for breaching the terms of his licence was returned to the prison system.
A 16-year-old boy from Ipswich was arrested at 9.20am on Friday on suspicion of murder.
Detectives were yesterday granted a Superintendent’s extension to question him for a further 12 hours.
Today he was bailed to return on April 11, pending further enquiries.
One message among the floral tributes read: “RIP Dean. You will be well and truly missed by everyone. You were such a genuine nice guy to everybody.”
Another stated: “RIP Dean. You will be truly missed. You was such a lovely big hearted guy, taken too soon. Gone but not forgotten. Till we meet again.”
Another said: “Taken too soon. We will all miss you! Forever in our hearts and memories.”
A fourth stated: “We are so sad you are gone!! You will be missed but not forgotten!”
An area of Gippeswyk Avenue remains cordoned off to the public for further police searches and forensic examinations.
