THE Deben Flower Club is preparing to celebrate its Pearl Anniversary and is having a special evening to mark the milestone.

The club was founded 30 years ago, in October 1971, to allow those enthusiastic flower arrangers who also worked during the day and were unable to attend afternoon meetings to gather in the evening.

Its first meeting was in the Kesgrave Memorial Hall, later moving to the old Church Hall and finally to its present home, the new and very comfortable Kirton Church Hall in 1973.

The club has grown to a membership of 76 meeting each month to watch, learn from and above all be entertained by professional demonstrators.

Throughout the years members have taken part in numerous competitions and flower festivals, most notably Chelsea Flower Show, the national competitions in Bournemouth and many times at the Suffolk Show, winning many prizes and raising a considerable amount of money for various charities.

Visitors and members are invited to join Deben Flower Club for its Pearl Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday October 9 at 7.30pm in the Suffolk Trinity Rooms, Suffolk Show Ground, Bucklesham Road, Ipswich.

Demonstrator for the evening will be the talented Richard Twiselton, from Market Harborough, with a theme of Flower Duet.

Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are £6 for guests and £3 for members, including wine and cake. Tickets and further information is available from Sue on 01473 736651 or Wendy on 01394 411422.
