Archant

For generations of Ipswich Town fans the Drum and Monkey - and under its former name the Sporting Farmer - was THE pub for a pre-match drink.

But it closed its doors for the last time in 2016 – and is now set for demolition to make way for a temporary car park and, eventually, redevelopment as part of the long-term vision for the Princes Street corridor.

One part of the pub will live on, however, its sign has been taken down and is to become a feature of Ipswich Town’s matchday fanzone in the marquee on the practice pitch behind the main stand at Portman Road.

It was taken down on Wednesday and is expected to be smartened up before it becomes a feature of the club’s own meeting space for fans which is increasingly popular.

Earlier this month the borough – which owns the building – granted permission for its demolition and for its site to be turned into 30 parking spaces.
