IPSWICH Town footballer Guillermo Graaven today vowed to resurrect his career after police confirmed he would not be charged with raping a teenager.

The allegation centred around an alleged attack carried out by Mr Graaven and another man on a Suffolk woman in Myrtle Road, Ipswich following a night out in the town.

While he said he was "happy" the case had been dropped, 19-year-old Mr Graaven said: "I thought I'd lost my whole career because of this girl. I've done nothing. It's a very big slur on my career."

He added: "Look, I'm not here for girls, I'm here to play football. There's been no progress to go up and up since this happened. I need to start playing and start working to get into the team."

The Dutch midfielder was arrested in August after a 17-year-old girl claimed the player and another 19-year-old man had raped her in a bedsit after she accepted a lift from the pair.

Although Mr Graaven maintains he feels bitter about the complaint he said he now wants to draw a line under the whole experience.

"My whole family was upset about these allegations," he said. "I just want to put it all behind me because I need to get into the team."
