LIGHTING on footpaths in the area where Suffolk murder victim Joan Albert lived will be up and running as soon as possible, it was promised today.
Capel Parish Council has been working on a village lighting project for 18 months and a number of new low level lamps, including two along the footpath linking Boydlands with Snowcroft, were installed last summer.
However as residents spoke of a heightened sense of fear following the brutal murder of the 79-year-old pensioner at her home in Boydlands, lights in the immediate area were not working because vandals had damaged them.
New low levels lights, designed to reduce environmental impact, were connected elsewhere in the village around October last year but the lights in Boydlands never worked because they were damaged before they were even connected.
Parish council chairman Gerald White said that the matter was discussed at a parish council meeting last month and it was decided that the lights should be connected as soon as possible.
"As trees around the village have matured we don't get the full impact of the street lights so we felt there were some areas where we could do with some additional lighting," he said.

"We have been looking at it for about 18 months but the trouble is we have to pay for it now. The county won't pay for maintenance or installing."
The new lights, in Boylands, Mowlands and Rembrow Road are a trial and could be followed up with more if deemed successful, he added.
