A woman was rescued from a car which crashed into a pub in Ipswich while diners were eating inside.

Emergency services were called to The Raven, off Hening Avenue, near Ransomes Industrial Estate at 6.50pm.

Firefighters removed the roof of the vehicle so paramedics could stabilise the woman, believed to be in her 20s.

The woman, thought to be from West Sussex area, was eventually rescued from her green Ford Ka.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “The woman had abdominal and chest pain, she was taken to Ipswich Hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.”

Paramedics had transported her to the hospital by 8.10pm.

The car had crashed into a pub wall causing long cracks to appear. A cordon was set up inside the pub to keep people away from the area.

Joe Sadler, the manager of the Marston’s pub, said no diners had been hurt. The pub remained open in the evening.

Three fire engines, an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer and an ambulance hazardous response vehicle were called. Police officers also attended to control traffic.

An off-duty paramedic happened to be in the area and called 999.
