AN EX-WORKER at a former hospital for the mentally ill has threatened to sue Suffolk Health Authority for the stress he claims he suffered while he was employed there.

Bert Baker, 76, who now lives in Larkfield, near Maidstone in Kent, worked as an untrained nurse assistant at St Audry's Hospital in Melton, near Woodbridge in the 1970s and 80s.

He has written to Suffolk Health's chairwoman Joanna Spicer demanding £1.5million for what he claims he has suffered mentally and emotionally from his time at St Audry's and will take the matter to the High Court if he does not receive anything before February 20.

Mr Baker claims that he was moved from his original ward because he hit out at perceived cruelty to patients there and was forced to give up his job after collapsing from nervous exhaustion.
