Former teacher to answer sex charges

A FORMER Ipswich deputy head and sports coach is to enter pleas to sex assaults in January, a court heard today.

Bryan Nelson, 71, of Woodbridge Road East, is to appear before Ipswich Crown Court on January 4 for a pleas and direction hearing.

Bryan Nelson, 71, of Woodbridge Road East, is to appear before Ipswich Crown Court on January 4 for a pleas and direction hearing.

Nelson was deputy head of Chantry High School and once ran a nationally-renowned weight lifting club on the Chantry estate.

He is charged with buggery on a date between January 1, 1983 and December 31, 1984 and indecent assault on a male under 16 years on a date between January 1, 1983 and December 31, 1988.

The court heard that Nelson was of previous good character, having no convictions recorded against him.

He was released on unconditional bail until the new year.
