A FORMER vice squad cop from the Metropolitan Police has today appeared in an Ipswich court charged with kerb crawling. Detective Sergeant Mark Daniel, of Grimwood Close, Brantham, who has worked for the Met for 14 years is alleged to have been caught kerb crawling on Sunday .

A FORMER vice squad cop from the Metropolitan Police has today appeared in an Ipswich court charged with kerb crawling.

Detective Sergeant Mark Daniel, of Grimwood Close, Brantham, who has worked for the Met for 14 years is alleged to have been caught kerb crawling on Sunday .

Daniel who is based at Shoreditch CID, was charged with persistently soliciting a person or people for the purpose of prostitution.

After his arrest and questioning at Ipswich police station on Sunday, Daniel was released on bail until his first court hearing.

The 34-year-old did not enter a plea at today's hearing in front of Ipswich magistrates at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Elm Street.

He is next due to appear at the court on July 11 and was released on unconditional bail.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “We can confirm Mark Daniel is a detective sergeant with the Metropolitan Police and has been placed on restricted duties.”

However, the spokesman said the force would not make any further comment.
