Families in the Chantry area of Ipswich have been reassured there is ‘no immediate danger’ and that police are doing everything they can following an alleged stabbing.
A 30-year-old man was allegedly stabbed twice on Saturday - firstly during an incident at the Oaks Caravan Park in Kirton Road, Bucklesham and later in Grebe Close, Chantry,
Four arrests have been made in connection to the stabbings, which occurred roughly eight hours apart with the first one at Oaks Caravan Park in Kirton Road, Bucklesham.
The second alleged incident took place in Grebe Close, in the CHnatry area of Ipswich. An area of Hawthorn Drive was also cordoned off by police.
The victim remains in a serious but stable condition, according to police.
In the wake of the incident, the latest in a series of stabbings in the town, councillors have reiterated the message from Suffolk police that there is no need for alarm in the public.
County councillor for Chantry, Peter Gardiner, said: “The police have said they were known to each other so there is no ongoing threat to the community - that’s my first concern.”
He explained that there has been some police activity in the area, in response to concerns from residents.
He said: “There is a lot of work being done to change things. I hope the residents can be reassured the police are on top of it.”
Ipswich borough councillor Roger Fern, who represents Sprites and served as mayor last year, said: “It is of course a regrettable incident but the police have said that the people involved were known to each other, so the important thing is there is no wider threat to the community.”
Police are appealing for any information from anyone who may of seen or heard any Saturday morning in the vicinity of Oaks Caravan Park or in the day in the vicinity of Grebe Close.
Police are also interested in anyone who may have been driving through those locations who have dash cam footage.
Anyone with information to either incident is asked to contact Ipswich CID on 101 quoting crime reference 37/45529/18 for the first incident and 37/45582/18 for the second incident.
