EMERGENCY services were called to a flat in Benfleet, in Essex, after a fire broke out shortly after 1am today.Four people, two adults and their two young children, were rescued from the top-floor flat in Manor Road, and taken to Southend Hospital with smoke inhalation injuries.

Four other people were treated at the scene.
