Four businesses in Suffolk feature in the latest edition of an annual listing of the UK’s private companies with the fastest-growing profits.

Omar Homes and Lignacite, both based in Brandon, Rockford, from Rendlesham, near Woodbridge, and Bennett Homes, at Nowton, near Bury St Edmunds, all appear in the new Sunday Times BDO Profit Track 100 table, to be published in full on April 8.

Omar Homes, which makes park homes and lodges and has a workforce of 375, is ranked 50th in the list, with its latest profit figure of £5.5m for the year to April 2017 representing annual growth of 72% over the past three years.

The company, which has a second factory in Hull, was acquired in April last year by private equity fund Rutland Partners, which has invested to support further growth.

Lignacite, which also has a site at Nazeing in Essex, with a total workforce of 74, and manufactures construction blocks, is in 59th place, with its profit of £4.3m for the year to December 2016 equating to annual growth of 66% over three years.

Buildings in which its blocks have been used include the Shard and the Gherkin in the city of London and the Olympic Stadium (now the London Stadium) in Stratford.

Rockford, which employs 283 people in the production of electrical components for the aerospace and defence industries, is ranked 76th, with its profit of £3.3m for the year to December 2016 representing three-year average growth of 60%.

And Bennett Homes, a regional housebuilder with a staff of 43, is in 97th place, with a profit of £4.0m for the year to December 2016 and average growth over three years of 55%.

“These businesses are playing their part by recording strong levels of revenue and profit growth and by creating jobs. We’d like to see the Government do more to help them by focusing on skills, infrastructure investment and tax simplification.”

Among the best known names in the table are sandwich shop chain Pret A Manger, domestic appliance designer Gtech and gym operator PureGym.
