DETECTIVES in Ipswich were today gearing up to quiz a fourth suspect, in connection with the hammer raid at an Ipswich jewellers.

A masked gang burst into Berridges in Dial Lane, at 12.40pm October 1, and smashed shop windows before grabbing items of jewellery worth thousands of pounds.

The offenders, believed to number up to five, were armed with a hammer.

As the Star has previously reported, two 20-year-olds and a 21-year-old all from London were arrested.

A 45-year-old man was also arrested today in connection with the robbery.

As the Star went to press, he was in custody at Lewisham Police Station, with few details about his identity available.

It is not yet clear whether he comes from the same area of London as the three younger men who have been charged.

A police spokeswoman said plans were underway for the man to be transferred to Ipswich Police Station for interview by CID officers this afternoon.

He has not yet been charged with any offences.
