A national charity which campaigns to protect the country’s Victorian and Edwardian heritage is confident a Suffolk building will not be on the top ten “at risk” list this year after a restoration project was agreed.
The Victorian Society identified the Tolly Cobbold Brewery in Ipswich as one of the most endangered properties but is delighted that plans have now been agreed for its future.
The former brewery will be transformed into an exhibition and business centre, with 222 homes, parking, a convenience store, a café, health club and possibly a new building for the Ipswich Transport Museum.
Christopher Costelloe, Victorian Society director, said: “The future now looks much brighter for many of the buildings we featured last year.
“Focusing attention on neglected buildings can help save them, which in turn benefits the wider community.”
