FRED Flintstone, Dumbo and Snow White took to the streets of East Bergholt on Bank Holiday Monday to raise cash for charity in the village's annual pram race.

The theme of this year's race, the thirtieth in the history of the event, was Walt Disney – and the teams certainly got into the cartoon spirit.

The normally quiet village streets were invaded by scores of brave souls eager to raise cash for the East Bergholt Heart Watch appeal.

At 11am, the streets resembled the start of the Wacky Races as more than a dozen teams lined up outside the Carriers Arms.

Cars were banished from the streets as the teams of three people hurtled along Heath Road to the Beehive pub.

Two dwarves, Wheezy and Queasy, pushed Snow White, one team adapted a shopping trolley for a pram and another lost two wheels off their pram just metres into the race.

Hundreds of people lined the streets to cheer on the teams, which consist of two pushers and a baby in the pram.

During a crawl around five pubs in the village, the baby must drink half a pint of beer at each pub, with the winner being the first team back to the Carriers Arms in fancy dress.
