Kesgrave Community Centre will be the home of a new defibrillator for use in emergencies, after funding was secured for the lifesaving equipment.

District councillor and trustee for the centre Stuart Lawson used part of his community enabling budget to fund the piece of equipment, with regular venue hirer Tony Williams, who provides first aid courses, offering training.

So far the centre’s staff and some of its regular clients who hire space have been trained.

Mr Lawson said: “I am very pleased to use part of my enabling community budget to help towards the funding of this defibrillator.

“KWMCC is a real hub of sporting, recreational and business activities for Kesgrave residents and surrounding areas for young and old alike.

“Hopefully the defibrillator is never required but by having it on site, if it is needed, it could give valuable help at short notice.

“With the installation and training required now complete I’m sure it will be an asset to the community centre.”

Centre manager Cheryl Tye added: “KWMCC is pleased to be able to provide a defibrillator for use should any of our hirers be taken ill whilst using the facilities.

“It is reassuring to know that so many willing individuals from clubs and organisations were prepared to give up their spare time to undertake defibrillator training with local trainer Tony Williams from APW Training.

“KWMCC is grateful for the financial support through ward councillor Stuart Lawson, through his community enabling budget, and whilst we obviously hope that no-one will be taken ill, we know that if they are, they will be well looked after until the blue-light services arrive.”
