IPSWICH man Bill Murton is being driven up the wall by a stretch of road riddled with a trail of potholes and bumps – and now he wants something done about it.

The 60-year-old, of Sproughton Road, is forced to endure the bumpy ride along Bramford Lane and Lovetofts Drive five days a week to get to and from work.

He said: "I think the whole road is in a disgraceful state and the council hasn't done anything to fix it.

"I travel along the road five days a week and you are up and down all the way. I just think it's a joke."

The parts of Bramford Lane around the Ulster Avenue area have particularly enraged Mr Murton, who works at West Engineering, in Olympus Close.

Some of the bumps and potholes in this area have recently been filled in but this has done nothing to help the situation, according to Mr Murton.

"It was bodged up last weekend I think but that has not done much good, he said.

"I think it's just an attempt by the council to fob people off. It's not really the sort of repairs you would expect from a council that has just put up council tax by 18.5per cent.

"They should get the tarmac out and do it properly instead of wasting all this money on bodging it."

Many vehicles use the route each day as a school run and there is also a row of shops in the adjoining Ulster Avenue.

It is also used as a through route by vehicle to Ipswich town centre in one direction and to the A14 in the other.

This, according to Mr Murton, means the road should be treated as a major one and given a decent surface.

"It's not what you would expect from the council of a premier town like Ipswich," he said.

An Ipswich borough council spokesman said: "We haven't received any complaints but we're going out immediately to check it out and if it does need fixing, it will be done.

"We're not in the business of either fobbing people off or bodging things. We do a quality job."

He added the borough council was not responsible for the council tax hike and thanked Mr Murton for bringing the issue to their attention.
